Just another interesting life …

No, not the song 🙂 Although I am very fond of Michael Jackson’s “Smile”.

A smile is the most attractive feature on anyone’s face. It doesn’t matter if your teeth are crooked, your smile is half-hearted or your mouth is fit for a toothpaste commercial. It’s a universal language that we all speak and understand. Yes, just like kindness is! It’s the only curve that sets things straight.

So, what has been said about smiling?

The Prophet Muhammad [PBUH] said: “Charity is prescribed for each descendant of Adam every day the sun rises.” He was then asked: “From what do we give charity every day?” The Prophet answered: “The doors of goodness are many; enjoining good, forbidding evil, removing harm from the road, listening to the deaf, leading the blind, guiding one to the object of his need, hurrying with the strength of one’s legs to one in sorrow who is asking for help, and supporting the feeble with the strength of one’s arms, all of these are charity prescribed for you.” He also said: “Your smile for your brother is charity.”

Smiling in your brother’s face is an act of charity.
So is enjoining good and forbidding evil,
giving directions to the lost traveller,
aiding the blind and
removing obstacles from the path.

Do you see the pattern? Smiling brings you happiness, it also brings others happiness. It is an act of charity for which you will, God willing, be rewarded. It alleviates pain, whether it be emotional or physical. So why wouldn’t you want to smile and brighten up your and/or someone else’s day? We have a saying back home that I strongly believe in, “Smile and leave things to God” … so try it, I guarantee you the results 🙂
